Pompeii is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy.

Mountains can be seen from the city. It was tough navigating through the ruins because there were no proper street signs.

The ruins were very very well preserved because the thick layer of ash prevented air and water from corroding the buildings. It's even possible to see drawings and carvings on the walls.

We managed to finish most of the ruins in 6 hours. The area is HUGE, though some parts are still undergoing restoration works. I think it would have been better if we had joined a guided tour because there are no signs around telling you what is what. We relied on eavesdropping on other tour groups to gather information.
