Budapest

I know this is sooooooooooooo backdated but heck. I spent lots of time uploading the pictures because blogspot's photo adder sucks.

Anywayyyy. We arrived at budapest and the first meal we had there was... CHINESE FOOD! You have no idea how happy I was. Firstly, the food was ChEAP. Not as cheap as chinese food you would get in Singapore, but cheap for food in europe.

Blablabla, we managed to find the hostel and had a good rest there. The hostel was fantastic, though the (insert nationality) people were really noisy and irritating.
We set out the next morning to go to the city center.

Orthodox Church, complete with the double horizontal line in the crucifix.

When I stepped into the church, I exclaimed "THIS IS SOOOOOO NOT A CHURCH MAN". Yea, marble columns, marble floors, marble walls. IS THAT A CHURCH?! Woo.

From the outside.

Some random bridge, with some random guy. I know, I am short.

We then made our way down to the parliament house, which is HUGE. (This is a picture of it take from somewhere else)

Well, we could not go in because there was some visiting minister from some country that day. So we were treated to a march pass instead. :P We didn't get the chance to see the parliament in the end because the tour the next day was right smack in the middle of the day, and we couldn't make it there on time.

We saw the entire march pass, and there were loads of police cars on the road that day, making budapest a safe area for that day. :D

Me under the Szechnyi Ianchid bridge. Darn, hungarian is a tough language. I tried to learn a few phrases but I kept forgetting them.

We had a FANTASTIC hungarian lunch. I asked the hostel lady to write down the names of some hungarian food and brought the paper along to a roadside restaurant to try them.

The starter- soup called Gulyás. A bit like tom yam because of the paprika. But tom yam is more lethal.

Pörkölt (pork stew with some paprika) with nokedli (the pasta). Tres bon. I loved it because it was slightly spicy, and I had not had spicy food for a looooong time.

Somloi Galuska for dessert. The whole meal was quite cheap. 3 courses for about 18SGD.

After lunch, we went up to castle Hill.

The Halaszbastya.

View from up there.

Budapest muzeum. It's sad how these beautiful buildings are museums. Why? COZ MUST PAY. CRAP. We didn't go in, of course.

The Szt Gellert-szobor statue. It's a dude holding a crucifix.

Me at the top of the hill.

Also at the top of the hill...

The citadella.

View from top.

On our way back to the hall, we got to see budapest at night.

The next day...

we saw the Largest Jewish Synagogue still around. But there was an entrance fee. One thing that really pissed me off in budapest was the entrance fees. Everything also need entrance fee!!!!

The railway station. We went to the budapest market in the morning, but it was a total RIP OFF. The whole place was too touristy.

In the noon, we made our way to the northern part of budapest.

szechenyi gyogyfurdo, where we had our budapest bath.

Yea, budapest is famous for it's thermal baths, and we went to try one.

My eyeeees. It was really expensive but oh well, whats coming to budapest without trying a buda bath?

Millenniumi emlekmu, which I thought was the nicest thing in Budapest.

The next morning, before our departure, we visited the terror museum.

It was quite depressing. Yup, most of the eastern European countries (under communist rule) have very depressing histories. The fact that the people there are still quite poor.
So... from one war torn state, I went to another...

(yea yea I will post about Berlin when I have the time)

In my opinion, I think Budapest is overrated.bleah.
